Khalid Yusuf Al-Jalahma will head the Gulf state's first diplomatic mission in the Jewish state

Bahrain Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa on Tuesday received the Gulf state's new ambassador to Israel, Khalid Yusuf Al-Jalahma, the state-run Bahrain News Agency reported.

Prince Salman, who serves as prime minister and deputy supreme commander of the Bahrain Defense Force, congratulated al-Jalahmah on the royal decree issued by the king of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, officially appointing him to head the diplomatic mission.

The event took place at King Hamad's Court, also known as Riffa Palace.

Bahrain's first-ever appointment of an ambassador to Israel comes after last September's signing of the Abraham Accords at the White House that normalized relations between the Jewish state and Bahrain and Gulf neighbor the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with Sudan and Morocco later joining the agreement.

The UAE's first ambassador to Israel, Mohammed Al-Khajah, arrived in March.
