Hogan To Congressional Delegation: Maryland Needs More Vaccines From Feds

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan responded to members of the state's congressional delegation who said they are seeking reforms to the state's distribution of its allotted COVID-19 vaccine doses.

In a letter sent last Tuesday to the governor, the lawmakers said a lack of a coordinated distribution network is causing an inequitable vaccine rollout among minority communities.

They wrote, in part: "It is clear the state is not meeting the needs of Marylanders, and we urge you to put forth a strategy and clear guidance that significantly improves Maryland's vaccination program."

In a letter sent Monday, the governor pointed to federal programs that facilitate partnerships with retail pharmacies and other policies to open eligibility to priority groups in Phases 1B and 1C that were advocated by the president and federal officials.

The governor explained in his letter that Maryland expanded eligibility based on federal guidance and guidance from scientific experts knowing that "the supply was not yet sufficient to meet the demand."

After touring the Baltimore Convention Center mass vaccination site Monday morning, the governor said the issue is the state is waiting for more vaccines, which he also focused on in his letter. Read more at WBALTV
