The Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19 coronavirus developed by the Russian Gamaleya Research Institute is 91.6 percent effective, a review of interim data has shown.

The estimate, which was published by the Gamaleya researchers on Tuesday in The Lancet, is based on a dataset including the trial results for 19,866 volunteers.

As part of the randomized double-blind controlled trial, 14,964 volunteers received the inoculation, while the remaining 4,902 received shots with placebo.

Within three weeks from receiving the first shots, the researchers found 16 cases of symptomatic COVID-19 among those who received the vaccine, all of them mild. Read more at i24
