US President-elect Joe Biden announced two significant potential appointments to his administration; Rochelle Walensky to head the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and California Attorney General Xavier Becerra to be his health and human services secretary, according to several news outlets.
“Walensky, who is Jewish, is chief of the infectious diseases division at Massachusetts General Hospital and is also a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School,” reported The Times of Israel.

She will replace Robert Redfield as director of the CDC, which has come under pressure from the Trump administration and its allies over its coronavirus guidance.
Unlike Becerra’s potential appointment, the post of CDC director does not require Senate approval.
