If a vote were held today, polls show Netanyahu's Likud party winning the most seats in parliament.
Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said on Sunday that it would take "a Hanukkah miracle" to avoid new elections, referring to the Jewish holiday which begins Thursday evening.
In an effort to avoid a new vote, Gantz met with Finance Minister Israel Katz on Sunday evening for a final effort to resolve the conflict between his Blue White party and the Likud, headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The two leaders are due to discuss the state budget for 2020, which must legally be passed by December 23, and the budget for 2021, which Gantz wants to pass by December 31.
"Another week has passed and the country still does not have a budget for 2021," lamented the Defense Minister during a cabinet meeting on Sunday. “Maybe we can hope for a Hanukkah miracle,” he quipped.
A parliamentary Knesset committee will meet at 10:30 a.m. Monday morning to debate the Knesset (Israel Parliament) dissolution bill, which passed a preliminary reading in plenary on Wednesday.
