In early October, Baltimore County deployed 13 secure ballot drop boxes. Security personnel will guard the drop boxes 24 hours a day, seven days a week, a cost for which the county is paying.

Due to high demand, Baltimore County is installing 31 additional secure ballot drop boxes that will be available by Friday, Oct. 23.

The county is also boosting pay for election judges. While the county has recruited the 1,500 judges needed, officials say they need substitutes.

"Baltimore County will now be providing a $100 pay incentive to enhance existing judge pay rates to both chief judges and general election judges," Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski said. "We're so appreciative to those who are helping get across the finish line in this unique election year."

The $100 incentive is per day, and it boosts the payment for a chief judge up to $350 a day. Regular election judges will earn $285 a day.
