Guard Watching Ballot Box Shot In Likely Attempted Robbery; Ballots Untouched

A security officer guarding a ballot box at the Achievement Academy was shot early Thursday, WBAL-TV 11 reports.

The 24-year-old man was shot around 4:55 a.m. in the 2100 block of Pinewood Avenue in Baltimore. Police said he was unarmed.

Police confirmed that around that time, officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of Pinewood Avenue for a reported shooting. The victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said he was working an overnight shift for a company tasked with guarding the ballot boxes. Police said the attackers approached the victim's vehicle and tried to open the door. The victim refused to unlock it and the attackers shot at him.

Police said the ballot box was not touched and was not believed to be the focus of the gunmen.
