A Democratic candidate vying for a seat in the Mississippi House of Representatives reportedly fatally shot his wife and then himself on Tuesday, police said.
Carl Robinson, 43, entered the Williams Medical Clinic in Potts Camp, Miss., — where his estranged wife, 34-year-old Latoya Thompson, was working at the front desk — on Tuesday morning, NBC News reports.
Robinson pulled a gun on Thompson and shot her before hopping over the counter and shooting himself, Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson told the network.
Officers responded to the scene at about 10 a.m., and Thompson died before a helicopter could get her to a hospital.
"We found the shooter dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head," Dickerson said.
Robinson and Thompson were negotiating a divorce, and Robinson was served divorce papers about half an hour before the shooting took place, Dickerson told NBC News, adding that police think the incident was "domestic-related.” Read more at The Hill
