Tens Of Thousands Visit Jerusalem's Old City (Photo Essay)

Jerusalem, Israel - Apr. 2, 2018 - Pesach morning in Yerushalayim received attention with the Birchas Kohanim attracting a reported one-hundred thousand people. However, all day tens of thousands more came and went from the Old City. 

Streets near and in the Old City were closed to traffic. From Yaffa Gate, was one of the main ways to proceed. People were dressed in varied holiday fashion. 

The Tower of David Museum had free entrance for children this week of Chol HaMoed, as do many museums throughout Israel. Families could be found inside the Tower of David Citadel and along the ramparts. 

The sun midday was very strong and temperatures felt like summer. There were volunteers giving out free glasses of water in more than one location along the way to the Kossel. 

Kosher for Pesach food was available in the Old City. Those restaurants open for the holiday were busy with customers. 

Signs were posted for the new elevator to be built to make the Kossel Plaza more accessible. The large gold menorah which was at the top of the steps was relocated in front of the Hurva Synagogue. Tourists stopped for photos all day. 

Long were the lines for buses away from the Old City. thousands and thousands of visitors tired, looking for a way home other than walking, waited patiently in the sun for transportation. 

Marylander Shaine Spolter was one of the tens of thousands in the crowd. In Israel, not only for Pesach, but also her grandson's bar mitzvah, son of Rabbi Reuven Spolter and Rena Rosen Spolter.
