Three cases of a new coronavirus mutation have been found among passengers returning to Israel at Ben Gurion Airport, the Health Ministry announced Monday.

The passengers were found to have the new BA4 variant, a mutation of the Omicron variant which is now spreading in South Africa and producing an increase in morbidity there. One verified carrier returned from South Africa, one from Singapore and one from Italy.

The carriers were discovered using PCR tests at the airport.
