Following Gov. Larry Hogan's lift of the outside mask mandate, surrounding Maryland leaders are deciding when, and how to proceed with the recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations. Local leaders have shared various reactions to the news.

Thursday morning, Montgomery County Executive Mark Elrich told C4 and Bryan Nehman that he would maintain the previously set outdoor mask mandate, adding that "there’s no reason not to wear masks."

"The CDC recommendations were about if you were walking, jogging with your family group. All that stuff - they still do not recommend taking masks off in outdoor restaurants. That's not part of what the CDC said," Elrich said.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott has released a statement about the recent recommendations, stating that three out of four Baltimore residents weren't fully vaccinated yet and that a distinguishing effort between full vaccinated and non-vaccinated will inform the City's decision. Scott also said that a decision of aligning with the updated recommendation would be made within the next few days.
