Emergency legislation that would require the Maryland Department of Health to develop a COVID-19 vaccination plan is under discussion in Annapolis.

Some lawmakers describe Maryland's COVID-19 vaccination rollout as slow, uneven and frustrating. One bill would require a plan to be submitted to the General Assembly by April 1. Another seeks a two-year blueprint to respond to COVID-19 and provides vaccination funding to local governments.

According to the bills' sponsors, the goal is to go from a piecemeal reactionary approach to a coordinated and consistent plan so that everyone will have the same expectations.

"This legislation would have a plan that is reviewed by the Legislature and is a sounder way to go about than what we have done so far," said the sponsor of House Bill 1263, Baltimore City Delegate Sandy Rosenberg, D-District 41. Read more at WBAL
