According to AAA, the average cost of a gallon of gas in Maryland is now $4.10. That breaks the previous record high set during the financial crisis in 2008. The average cost of a gallon of gas jumped 6 cents overnight.

Last week, Marylanders were paying less than $4 per gallon - $3.60. At this time last year, people in Maryland were paying an average of $2.78 per gallon.

While prices were already on the rise, an economist says Russia’s invasion of Ukraine accelerated the price hikes.
