A record number of Americans quit their jobs in November, highlighting how the persistent turnover has made it difficult for employers to fill open jobs that remain well above pre-pandemic levels. 

The Labor Department said Tuesday that an unprecedented 4.5 million Americans quit their jobs November, before the highly contagious omicron variant of the coronavirus began disrupting the U.S. economy and labor market. Meanwhile, the number of open positions fell unexpectedly to 10.6 million.
