Earlier today, Chaim V’Chessed reported that Delta Airlines will become the first non-Israeli airline to be permitted to operate flights during the current flight ban.

We are now pleased to report that our sources in United Airlines have informed us that United, too, will begin operating flights between Israel and the US. United Flight 91 will take off from Tel Aviv to Newark shortly after midnight on Sunday, February 21 (Saturday night). Following that, United will fly each evening to Newark. They will also operate three flights a week to San Francisco.

Furthermore, United will be allowed to operate two flights next week from Newark to Tel Aviv. United flight 90 will operate on February 23 and February 26.

It should be noted that the current flight ban is scheduled to end after February 20. However, there are increasing signs that the ban will be extended. United’s asserts that their new flights will operate even if the flight ban remains in place after February 20.

In the event that the ban remains in place, Israeli citizens will be required to obtain permission to leave the country from the Vaadat Charigim (Exceptions Committee), via this link.

We express our gratitude to United’s station manager, Nicolas Kuemmerle,  who worked tirelessly to gain approval for these flights, for the benefit of the community.

This is a dynamic situation. Rules and details can – and will – change rapidly.
