Israel's ministerial panel in charge of military procurement approved on Tuesday the acquisition of a new squadron of advanced F-35 stealth jets from the United States, Reuters reported on Tuesday.

Under the green-lighted deal, Israel also looks to acquire four Boeing KC-46 refueling planes, as well as advanced munitions.

Yet undecided are the plans to acquire a replacement for Israel's aging fleet of heavy transport helicopters as well as the fighter jets that will be acquired for the second new squadron, Times of Israel reports.

Last week, Israel's government approved the funding mechanism for the purchase, which will see Israel tap into the US military aid funds and seek loans from US banks. Read more at i24
