'Don’t forget it’s "TRUST" then "VERIFY"!' expert says after State Dept questions China's transparency

Peter Daszak, a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) expert team investigating the origins of COVID-19 coronavirus, took a jab on Wednesday at the United States intelligence on the matter.

In a tweet, he referred to a South China Morning Post article covering the State Department's response to a keynote press conference held by the mission on Tuesday.

In his comments, State spokesman Ned Price said the US supported the WHO probe -- but also cast doubt on whether China had been fully transparent in its cooperation with the investigation.

"Clearly, the Chinese, at least heretofore, has not offered the requisite transparency that we need," he said, adding that while the US will review the WHO report, it would also "work with our partners, and also draw on information collected and analyzed by our own intelligence community."
