WHO investigation team wraps up its visit to Wuhan as search for COVID-19 origins looks to expand

Dr. Peter Ben Embarek, head of the WHO team of experts investigating COVID-19 coronavirus origins in China's Wuhan, said Tuesday that the lab incident hypothesis was "extremely unlikely" and did not warrant further study.

The statement was made at a joint press conference with the Chinese experts, who were also part of the joint probe, as the WHO mission wrapped up its Wuhan visit.

The investigators said they had been unable to pinpoint the animal host from whom the disease was transferred to humans.

Embarek also revealed the investigation had not revealed evidence of major outbreaks linked with COVID-19 before December 2019 in Wuhan or any other locations. Read more at i24
