Head of Denmark's Jewish Community cited as saying bill is 'worst threat since World War II'

Denmark's parliament is set to consider a bill that would ban non-medical male circumcision for adolescents, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported Sunday.

If approved, the bill could work as an effective ban on the Jewish ritual of brit milah, which sees a baby boy circumcised eight days after his birth.

Filed last month by Simon Emil Ammitzboll-Bille, a lawmaker with the left-of-center Forward party, the bill will be considered by the Folketinget some time in the current session.

In her post on Facebook, she said she believed it was up to the boys themselves to make the decision in regards to their bodies, and thus, non-medical procedures of the kind will only become available for those aged 18 or older. Read more at i24
