The CEOs of Facebook, Twitter, and Google will appear before Congress on March 25 over concerns of their platforms being used to spread false information online.

The hearing, announced on Thursday by the House Energy and Commerce Committee, will be focused on the spread of misinformation on social media.

“For far too long, big tech has failed to acknowledge the role they’ve played in fomenting and elevating blatantly false information to its online audiences. Industry self-regulation has failed,” three of the committee’s leaders said in a statement. “We must begin the work of changing incentives driving social media companies to allow and even promote misinformation and disinformation.”
