Billionaire Michael Bloomberg pledged to spend as much as $100 million to boost Joe Biden in the crucial swing state of Florida, where polls show President Trump and the Democratic presidential nominee in a neck-and-neck race less than two months from Election Day.

The former New York City mayor and short-lived presidential candidate made the decision to inject the millions into the Sunshine State after Trump last week said he was willing to donate money to his campaign from his personal fortune, the Washington Post reported.

“Voting starts on Sept. 24 in Florida so the need to inject real capital in that state quickly is an urgent need,” Bloomberg adviser Kevin Sheekey told the newspaper. “Mike believes that by investing in Florida it will allow campaign resources and other Democratic resources to be used in other states, in particular the state of Pennsylvania.”
