A Los Angeles city councilman who advocates for abolishing the police is facing criticism after his office requested extra patrols from the LAPD to monitor his broken-down Lexus, according to Fox News. Council Member Hugo Soto-Martinez of District 13 made the request through a staffer, who called the police Wednesday evening. Soto-Martinez had previously identified himself as a "abolitionist" in a candidate questionnaire. VP of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, Sgt. Jerretta Sandoz, called the councilman's actions "hypocritical" and "irresponsible." In response to the incident, the councilman's office stated that they were investigating the matter internally and taking appropriate action, but Sandoz questions the validity of this response and believes the councilman should step down if he fails to protect his constituents and the city of Los Angeles.
