Since the onset of Covid, obtaining an appointment at the US Embassy in Israel has been frustrating at best, and impossible at worst.  Although the Embassy tried various strategies to ease the process, such as Open Days for CRBA applications, demand has always seemed to outweigh the supply.

As of February 6, the US Embassy in Israel has announced a new system for scheduling all types of appointments.  There are various questions as to how the new system will work. Chaim V’Chessed representatives are in contact with Embassy officials to clarify the details. The following is a preliminary explanation of the new process.

First-time Passport/CRBA and Passport Renewal for Children under 16

Every Wednesday between 3 – 4 pm, new appointments will be released for the following week.  Presently, appointments are showing for June, July and August as well.

Appointments can be made via this link only.  One can choose between an appointment at the Embassy in Jerusalem or the Branch Office in Tel Aviv. You will be shown available dates and times to choose from, after which you must enter the applicant’s name, an email address and phone number. You will receive an email confirmation of your appointment. The appointment must be confirmed via the link emailed to you in order to confirm that you will be attending your appointment.

With the new system, the Embassy will be sending out numerous emails to confirm one’s appointment.  Be sure to provide an email address that you have constant and easy access to.

Please note: The CRBA video appointment program has been suspended.

Adult Passport Renewal

Adult ten-year passports can still only be renewed either by mail or by drop box.  In-person appointments are not given in such cases.

First-time Adult Passport

Children 16 and up must apply in person for their first-time adult passport.  To book an appointment, check this link every Wednesday between 3 – 4 pm for new appointments for the following week, as per the instructions above for first-time Passports.

Emergency Passports

Emergency appointments will be released Monday – Friday between 3 – 4 pm for those who have imminent travel to the U.S. within the next two weeks.   Appointments, made via this link, will be for the following business day.  One who books an emergency appointment will be issued a passport with a purple cover, valid for less than one year. This can be replaced with a full validity passport by mail or via the drop box.

This option should NOT be used if you have travel in a few months’ time.

Please note:  According to the new system, if you hold a ten-year passport and it is still valid or expired less than five years ago, you are NOT eligible to book an emergency appointment.

Canceling an Appointment

If you cannot make it to your appointment, be sure to cancel!  Not showing up to one’s appointment may result in being unable to book future appointments.

A link will be available in the confirmation email you receive to cancel appointments that are not needed.

Never book two appointments.  Duplicate appointments will be canceled immediately.

Rescheduling an Appointment

With the new system, one can change the date of their appointment!  Click on the link for rescheduling in the confirmation email you received upon booking the original appointment and follow the steps to book a new appointment. The original appointment will automatically be canceled.

Notarial Appointments

Appointments for notarizations at the Embassy can be made via the same link.
