JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Yemina MK Ayelet Shaked met Monday with Chareidi journalists and spoke about her party’s preparations for the coming elections, at the same time issuing a number of surprising statements regarding Chareidi issues.

Shaked related that after analysis of those who vote for Yemina, a third are secular, a third traditional and a third religious including Chareidim. “I can’t yet declare that we will place a Chareidi representative in a realistic seat as we haven’t yet reached that point, but we do know based on polls that about 1.5 of our mandates come from the Chareidi sector.”

Shaked also said that the reason that Bennett is aiming to contest for prime minister is because “Netanyahu threw us into the opposition and the public saw and was disturbed by this. Netanyahu deepened the gap between the Likud and Yemina and this is why its now easier for us to present an alternative to the present government.”

Asked about the possibility of renewing the cooperation with Yair Lapid, Shaked countered that it was her party (then named Jewish Home) which protected the interests of the Chareidim. Shaked added surprisingly that her party now supports giving a total exemption from the army to Chareidim from the age of 22 in order to enable them to enter the workforce. She also said that the educational system opened in the merit of Rabbi Kanievsky, shlita, who demonstrated that opening Talmud Torahs while maintaining health regulations prevented the spread of coronavirus infections.
