State Troopers to enforce coronavirus safety measures

Baltimore, Md - Nov. 25, 2020 - Governor Larry Hogan's high-visibility compliance units with the help of state police will be seen around Baltimore starting Wednesday, 11/25 at 5 PM, WBALTV reports. These units will be disbursed to check capacity limits, masking and social distancing in all public places. If these protocols are violated, violators and business owners could face large penalties and face closures.

"We don't look to shut down places immediately, and in some areas of the state, we will have the health department with us; however, again, it is about educating, see if we can get that business into compliance," Maryland State Police Sgt. Travis Nelson relayed.

"The intent is really to find the major violators of these public health orders," Nelson said.

Nelson warns that violators may face criminal charges that carry a hefty fine and possible jail time.

Cell phone alerts will go out at 5 p.m. Wednesday, reminding citizens of the public health orders in place.
