Nachman Ash, who at one time served as the IDF's chief medical officer, will replace Prof. Ronni Gamzu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Health Minister Yuli Edelstein announced that Prof. Nachman Ash will be appointed as the country's next coronavirus czar, according to a joint statement released to the press on Tuesday.

Ash, who at one time served as the IDF's surgeon general, will replace Prof. Ronni Gamzu, who was appointed to the position in July. 

Currently a member of Ariel University’s health management department, the 59-year-old Ash will take over on Wednesday for Gamzu, who was set to leave his government role in the coming days.
