All child-care providers must close by the end of the day Friday, except those serving essential personnel, the state school superintendent announced Thursday.

"Beginning at the end of the day Friday, all child-care programs are to be closed," Superintendent Karen Salmon said in a statement. "During this state of emergency, child-care programs have been established by the state to serve only designated essential personnel."

The program are being provided at no cost to designated essential personnel.

Eligible programs can be found on the Maryland State Department of Education website, or through a free referral hotline called LOCATE: 877-261-0060.
