The Republican activist whose online videos sparked President Donald Trump’s Twitter attacks on Congressman Elijah Cummings and Baltimore has announced she is running for the late congressman’s seat.

Kimberly Klacik made her announcement on Fox News Channel on Saturday.

“I’m in, and I’m excited,” Klacik told anchor Ed Henry.

Klacik says she wants to be “a stronger voice against socialism and the Squad,” referring to the four freshmen women of color who are Democrats.

Klacik described the campaign as “an uphill battle,” in a district where Democratic voters outnumber Republicans.

Klacik says she can build support for Trump among African-Americans.

Klacik's appearance on Fox News in July led President Trump to attack Cummings and the city, describing it as "a dirty rat infested" city, and blaming the late congressman for its conditions.

Klacik is a Baltimore County Republican committeewoman and is running in the Feb. 4 special primary election.

As of Friday, three other Republicans and eight Democrats had filed paperwork with the Maryland State Board of Elections to run in the primary.

Two Democrats who have announced, former congressman and NAACP President Kweisi Mfume and Baltimore City Del. Talmadge Branch, have not filed their paperwork yet.

Baltimore City state Sen. Jill Carter has formed an exploratory committee, and Cummings' widow, Maryland Democratic Party Chair Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, is considering a run.

The filing deadline is Nov. 20.

The 7th Congressional District is made up of parts of Baltimore City and Baltimore and Howard counties. Cummings routinely won reelection over Republican challengers by wide margins.

Cummings had chaired the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee, one of three congressional committees involved in the impeachment investigation.

He died last month after a long illness.

Klacik is scheduled to appear at 1 p.m. Tuesday on "The Yuripzy Morgan Show" on WBAL NewsRadio 1090 and FM 101.5.
