Contradicting the determination by Police Commissioner Michael Harrison that Detective Sean Suiter took his own life, State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby said Thursday the investigation is still an "open and pending matter."

Mosby did not elaborate on why her position differed from Harrison's.

"So what I can say is I can't comment on open and pending matters," Mosby said in a press conference.

On Wednesday, Harrison said a review by Maryland State Police, which followed an independent review commissioned by former Police Commissioner Darryl De Sousa, had eliminated all other possibilities.

Suiter was shot with his own service weapon after running into a clearing in Harlem Park. Harrison's announcement came just over a week before the two-year anniversary of his death.

Suiter's family, however, maintains he was murdered and that state police rubber-stamped old reporting and old witnesses. They accused Harrison of falsely promising them a new investigation.

"The Baltimore City Police Department wrapped up that bag of trash, and they dropped it off doing nothing for almost two years, at the steps of the state police and this is what we got," attorney Jeremy Eldrige said.
