Role Overview

Hopkins Hillel seeks a dynamic, creative individual to serve as senior Jewish Educator. As a passionate and engaging Jewish teacher, you will envision, plan, and execute Hopkins Hillel's pluralistic engagement initiative, collaborating with other staff in an interdenominational space to shape the future of Jewish life on campus. You will develop relationships with students, staff, faculty, and community members to ensure a vibrant Jewish community on campus and inspire students to be a part of the Hopkins Jewish campus community. You will meet stakeholders, community members and students at places like Bird in Hand or Carma’s Café in the eclectic Charles Village area, as well as on campus or volunteering in the local community. You will be working with a team of passionate professionals who are dedicated to building an inclusive, vibrant Jewish community.

What You will Do
• Collaborate with other Hillel senior level staff to set the vision for Hillel’s
engagement and educational goals and strategy.
• Build 1:1 relationships with 150-200 students from diverse backgrounds through
meaningful conversations and by creating connections to opportunities to
participate in Jewish life on campus.
• Develop learning opportunities for students to study Judaism from liberal
Jewish/Reform perspectives, including teaching the Jewish Learning Fellowship
(JLF) and other formal and informal educational experiences.
• Serve as the lead educator and administrator for multiple cohorts based
Jewish/Israel learning opportunities.
• Develop a program that welcomes all students and inspires them to be a part of
the Hopkins Jewish campus community.
• Mentor student leaders as they maintain and grow the Reform community, lead
Shabbat and holiday services, and train their successors.
• Advise student leaders as they facilitate learning sessions, create programs and
experiences, build peer-to-peer relationships, and manage their student-led
organizations and clubs.
• Be a voice for social justice on campus, including staffing Hillel’s immersive
community service experiences and creating partnerships with social service
organizations.
• Identify and employ community organizing and outreach strategies that empower all
students and encourage unengaged students to take a more active role in Jewish
life.
• Staff immersive experiences domestically and abroad, especially to Israel.
• Provide pastoral counseling and support to students.
• Develop and nurture relationships with university student life, religious life
staff, and the local Jewish community.

What You Have Accomplished
• Rabbinic ordination or an advanced degree in Jewish studies, Jewish education, or
a related field – Preferred
• Extensive experience with youth or young adult programming, through camping,
NFTY, BBYO, informal educational experiences, and/or campus work.
• Demonstrated ability to strongly relate to college students and a love for
working with this population.

• Vision for how to lead the liberal and not-yet-engaged student populations on
campus.
• An ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• An ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments and projects.
• Expertise in leading complex conversations about Judaism and Israel in a way that
is approachable and meets students at various points in their personal Jewish
journeys.
• A willingness to work in a pluralistic Jewish environment, with an appreciation
for other denominational views and an understanding that there is no one way to
be Jewish.
• Pastoral counseling skills.
• Strong writing skills, especially as applied to email blasts, grant applications,
and other forms of communication.
• A love for Israel and the ability to be an informed advocate about issues facing
the Jewish state.
• An eagerness to get out of the office and spend time on campus.
• An ability to build and track relationships through social media, WordPress, CRM,
and other engagement tools.

What You will Receive
• Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. The salary range for this role
is $70,000-$80,000.
