Washington, D.C. —May 22, 2025 - The Orthodox Union Advocacy Center applauded the historic passage of a federal school choice program in the House early this morning as part of the Republican tax legislation. The Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) gives federal tax credits to individuals who donate to a scholarship-granting institution. Families can use those scholarships at the nonpublic K-12 school of their choosing.  “The school choice provision is a tremendous victory for Jewish families, and those in other faith communities, who pay their fair share of taxes but send their children to a religious nonpublic school because they, their parents, think that’s the best school for their children,” said OUA Executive Director Nathan Diament. “C...
Nathan Diament, Executive Director of the Orthodox Union Advocacy Center (OUA), issued a powerful statement following the tragic shooting of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, two Israeli Embassy staff members, outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC. In his statement on X, Diament stated,  “This is where incessant & unchecked antisemitism & the demonization of Israel leads; to the murder of innocents, the cutting off of a bright future.”   Adding to the gravity of the moment, 15 student leaders from the OUA’s Leaders In Advocacy Training (LIAT) fellowship program were in Washington, DC, at the time of the attack. These students, who have been at the forefront of fighting anti-Israel and antisemitic sentiment on their campuses, were just b...
ZOA National President Morton A. Klein shared:  “The Zionist Organization of America ZOA condemns the brutal antisemitic murder of two innocent staffers of the Israel embassy outside the Capitol Jewish Museum. This heinous act by a subhuman killer must be publicly condemned by everyone. We must understand that the Jew-hating Hamas-supporting Palestinian Arabs were offered and rejected a State 8 times in the last 80 years, starting with the Peel Commission offer of 95% of the rest of Palestine (Jordan already controlled 80% of Palestine). They were offered and rejected a state 4 times in the last 20 years. Their goal is not a State- it is to murder every Jew and destroy the Jewish State as the Hamas charter proclaims. In fact, PA Leader Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authori...
President Donald Trump's "one big, beautiful bill" passed the House of Representatives early on Thursday morning with few Republican defections. It is a significant victory for House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., who navigated deep inter-party friction within the House GOP Conference to deliver a product from which few Republican lawmakers ultimately defected. The bill is a sweeping multi-trillion-dollar piece of legislation that advances Trump's agenda on taxes, immigration, energy, defense and the national debt. It's sought to make a dent in the federal government's spending trajectory by cutting roughly $1.5 trillion in government spending elsewhere. The U.S. government is over $36 trillion in debt and has spent $1.05 trillion more than it's...

That's despite losing 2,600 federal government jobs in the same month. With a total of more than 3.1 million jobs in the state, the added 2,300 isn't a statistically significant increase according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate shows a slight increase from 3% in March to 3.1% in April. The national unemployment rate didn't change from 4.2%. For April, South Dakota has the lowest unemployment rate at 1.8% and DC had the highest at 5.8%. However, looking at the raw numbers, the number of people seeking unemployment in Maryland went down month over month, as did the number of people in the wor...

The second bill, the Renewable Energy Certainty Act, creates uniform siting standards for commercial solar farms in Maryland, in some cases overruling local jurisdictions that had sought to restrict the farms with zoning rules.
