Baltimore, MD - Dec. 15, 2025 - Members of the Jewish community in Pikesville gathered Sunday at ARIEL Chabad for a menorah lighting event on the first night of Hanukkah with increased security measures in place in response to the Australia mass shooting.
Rabbi Velvel Belinsky, who is the director of ARIEL Chabad, is devastated by the shooting on Bondi Beach, which targeted the Jewish community during a menorah lighting event.
“The terrorist attack that was in Australia touched me personally because as a yeshiva student I was sent for one year to help working in Australia with the Jewish community, and I was working at the very Chabad Center that organized this menorah lighting,” Belinsky said.

FBI Director Kash Patel announced today (Monday) that the FBI has foiled a terrorist attack that was planned by a 'pro-Palestinian' cell in Los Angeles.
The four-man cell is accused of plotting to carry out coordinated bombing attacks at five locations across Los Angeles on December 31, New Year's Eve. The arrests were first reported by Fox News.

A horrific terror attack took place Sunday night at an outdoor Chanukah celebration at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. To our great sorrow, 15 people were murdered, among them the Chabad emissary of Chabad to Australia, Rabbi Eli Schlanger. Dozens have also been wounded. We know that Yosef attributed everything he did to Hashem. But when we read the story of his interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream, the ability for which he attributes to Hashem, we don’t hear Hashem speaking to Yosef directly. So how did Hashem help? Rabbi David Fohrman, in lectures I heard over 15 years ago, suggested that Hashem made the very details in the dream to speak to Yosef personally.
