And second, I want to thank you for your friendship and for your leadership. From Jerusalem to Tehran, from the Golan Heights to Gaza, you've proven time and again what I've said many times. You are the greatest friend that Israel has ever had in the White House. And, Mr. President, you and I both know it's not even close. While you focus at home on making America great again, your leadership abroad is changing the world for the better, ending wars and advancing peace. For almost fifteen years, Rav Dovid was not only a beacon of strength and Emunah, but a true warrior, living each day with courage, dignity and deep devotion to Torah despite his struggle with the devastating and cruel disease, ALS. Unfortunately, years of 24/7 care, medical expenses and household needs have left enormous debts and there is no savings or insu...

Annapolis, MD - Sept. 29, 2025 - As lawmakers continue to debate the budget and a possible government shutdown looms, officials warn it could have significant impacts to Maryland. A memo from the White House Budget Office has instructed agencies to identify programs whose funds will lapse if Congress fails to meet the September 30 funding deadline and that have no alternative source of funding. Those programs could then be targeted for sweeping reductions, and the possibility of some of those jobs, which are “not consistent” with President Donald Trump’s priorities, permanently eliminated. "What it does is it turns people into political pawns," said Rep. Johnny Olszewski. "Firing them would make a shutdown permanent," he added. "So even if we opened up, there'd be...
The clock is ticking to fund government, and so far, lawmakers do not have a path forward to avert a partial shutdown. The Senate returned to Washington, D.C., on Monday, and congressional leaders are slated to meet with President Donald Trump to negotiate a deal on funding the government. But the last week has seen both sides point the finger at who would own closing the government. Lawmakers have until midnight Wednesday to pass a short-term funding extension, or else the government will close. And if it does, it would be the third shutdown under Trump.A government shutdown happens when Congress can neither pass all 12 appropriations bills needed to fund the government, nor pass a continuing resolution (CR), which typically keeps funding levels static while lawmakers hus...
Jessup, MD — Sept. 29, 2025  - The state plans to close the Maryland Correctional Institution at Jessup, Gov. Wes Moore's office announced Monday. According to the governor's office, the prison known as MCI-J is set to close by June 30, 2026. The governor's office said the closure will save the state roughly $21 million per year in operational costs. "MCI-J has long outrun its facility lifespan and we refuse to kick the can further down the road," Moore said in a statement. "Our plan to close this facility will save taxpayers money, ease strain on our hardworking and dedicated correctional staff, and honor the state's commitment to meeting every Marylander with humanity, including incarcerated individuals." MCI-J opened in 1981 as a medium-security co...

President Donald J. Trump has introduced a sweeping new proposal aimed at bringing an immediate end to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, while laying the foundation for long-term stability and prosperity in the region. Under the plan, Gaza would be transformed into a deradicalized and terror-free zone. The comprehensive agreement includes provisions for a complete cessation of hostilities, the release of hostages, extensive humanitarian aid, and the redevelopment of Gaza under international oversight. If both sides agree to the terms, Israeli forces will withdraw to an agreed-upon line and prepare for the release of hostages. During this stage, all military operations, including aerial and artillery strikes, will be suspended. Within 72 hours of Israel publicly accepting the agreement, all h...
This year the Shabbos shuva drasha came early for me. Rather in Tishrei, it came  in the beginning of Elul, and from the most unexpected source.   I had invited a friend and her family over for Shabbos lunch and we were looking forward to their company.  Shabbos day came, and they arrived to our delight. My friend and I,  with our daughters in tow,  piled into the kitchen to shmooze and  bring out the  first course.  In a weird move near the stovetop, somehow the burner was pushed in and the flame went on.  We don’t usually have a blech and therefore the stovetop is off. The remaining three burners began clicking and sparking and afraid of the fire hazard of the leaking gas,  my husband went in search of someone who could turn i...
Jerusalem, Israel -  Sept. 29, 2025 - On August 1, the U.S. Embassy in Israel switched vendors for the delivery of passports and other official documents. From the very first moment, the new arrangement proved unsuccessful. Deliveries failed to arrive, applicants received no timely updates, and, most troubling, the sole Jerusalem pick-up location  was situated in the eastern Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina – an impractical option for much of the community. Since the transition, Chaim V’Chessed has been in ongoing discussions with embassy officials to rectify the situation. In fact, Chaim V’Chessed even offered a short-term solution; a courier service to collect passports directly from Beit Hanina for the convenience of applicants. Jus...
