Annapolis, MD - Sept. 19, 2025 - Maryland has joined a growing coalition of states that are setting their own public health guidelines to counter the Trump administration’s more restrictive vaccine policies, a health department spokesperson said Thursday. The House of Representatives adopted a resolution to honor the "life and legacy" of late conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Friday, just over a week after he was shot and killed during a college campus speaking event in Utah. The measure got bipartisan support in a 310 to 58 vote, with both Democrats and Republicans having quickly risen to condemn political violence in the wake of Kirk's assassination. The vote divided Democrats, however, with 95 lawmakers voting to adopt the resolution, 58 voting against it, and 22 not voting at all.Thirty-eight Democrats also voted "present" on the resolution as well. The top three House Democrats – Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., Whip Katherine Clark, D-Mass., and Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar, D-Calif. – all vote...
You are standing today, כולכם — all of you, before your G-d — your heads of your tribes, and your elders, and your officers, — כל איש יש×Øאל all the men of in Israel. On this last day of Moshe's life, he gathered every man, woman and child, initiating them into the covenant of G-d. The verse seems redundant. It begins with Moshe addressing כולכם — 'all of you', everyone, but then goes on to enumerate several prominent groups, and closing by reiterating that he is speaking to כל איש יש×Øאל — every member of our nation. The Midrash poses this question, answering it by explaining Moshe's intended message. "Although I have enumerated your officers, judges, and elders, know that all of you — כל איש יש...

I got some mussar the other day, which is not a bad thing, especially at this time of year. A woman I bumped into the other day chided me, “You stopped writing!” I was taken aback. I knew she meant it as a compliment; however, I did not realize how much my words meant to her. I reassured her I’d get back on track. It has been a busy and very fun summer, Baruch Hashem,  with some writing here and there (and rejections!), a very busy back to school season, and of course the start of another holiday one as well. There really hasn’t been much time to write, so Mrs. X, this one’s for you! This past summer, I had the privilege of travelling to Budapest and Keresztir with a group of young women in shidduchim.  It was a very special trip for many reasons,...
Towards the end of Parshas Nitzavim, there are twenty Psukim within which the Torah refers to the Brachos and Klalos, which were just delivered on Har Grizim and Har Eival, in a multitude of different ways.  First, Hashem tells us that after all the Brachos and Klalos have befallen us and we are in Galus, we shall once again return to him and he will bring us back to the land of our fathers.  (Netzavim 30:1-5) Next, Hashem says that “today he has set before us the life and the good and death and evil.” (30:15).  Finally, Hashem says that he is bringing the heavens and earth as witnesses that he has indeed set before us “life and death and blessings and curse”. (30:19).  Why does the Torah alternate between blessings and curse, life and death and ...
