Canada said it would remove its 25% tariff on about half of the U.S. goods it has targeted since March as the country attempts to reset its trading relationship with the U.S. However, Prime Minister Mark Carney said 25% duties on U.S. steel, aluminum and automobiles would remain in place. Overall, the decision affects about $21 billion of U.S. exports to Canada, on goods such as orange juice, peanut butter, wine, spirits, beer, appliances and motorcycles. Tariffs on those goods come off as of Sept. 1. The move comes the day after Carney and President Trump spoke for the first time since the two countries failed to reach a trade deal before an Aug. 1 deadline. At a press conference Friday, Carney said that by dropping the tariffs, the U.S. and Canada will now tr...
US President Donald Trump spoke to reporters on Friday, suggesting that there are fewer than 20 living hostages still being held by the Hamas terrorist organization in Gaza. “I'm the one that got all of the hostages out. If it wasn't for me, they wouldn't be out. I worked with Bibi and I worked with Steve Witkoff. But if it wasn't for me, all these hostages would most likely be dead right now, every one of them,” said Trump. “So now they have 20, but the 20 is actually probably not 20, because a couple maybe aren't around any longer. It's a terrible thing,” he added. “Now there are 20 live hostages, and it's probably not 20 anymore because some of them are probably no longer with us,” he stated. “I said, you k...

The Trump administration said Friday that it had taken a 10% stake in Intel, President Donald Trump’s latest extraordinary move to exert federal government control over private business. The United States will not seek direct representation on Intel's board and pledged to vote with the current Board of Directors on matters requiring shareholder approval, "with limited exceptions," according to a joint release from the Trump administration and Intel. The move also comes as the United States vies with China in the race to dominate the artificial intelligence industry. Trump also announced the deal on his Truth Social platform Friday, praising the company's CEO just two weeks after he called on the executive to resign over alleged China ties. "It is my Great ...

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has fired a US general whose agency’s initial intelligence assessment of damage to Iranian nuclear sites from US strikes angered President Donald Trump, The Associated Press reported on Friday, citing two sources and a White House official. Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Kruse will no longer serve as the head of the US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). The firing is the latest upheaval in US military and intelligence leadership, coming just months after the preliminary assessment was leaked to the media. The leaked report, which was carried by several media outlets including CNN and the New York Times, claimed that Iran’s nuclear program had been set back only a few months by the US strikes, directly contradicting assertions from Pre...
The U.S. economy grew at a faster pace than expected at the beginning of 2024 as consumers continued to open their wallets despite ongoing inflation and high interest rates.  Gross domestic product, the broadest measure of goods and services produced across the economy, grew by 2.8% on an annualized basis in the three-month period from April through June, the Commerce Department said in its first reading of the data on Thursday.  That is much higher than the 2% increase forecast by LSEG economists and the 1.4% pace seen during the first quarter.  "The U.S. economy is much stronger than people realize and to the extent that markets were worried about a growth slowdown, they should breathe a sigh of relief after this morning’s GDP number," said Chris Zaccare...

Baltimore, MD – Aug. 21, 2025 – I stood in the doorway of the packed room. It was full of all types of religious Jews. As I stood there in my hat and beard and payos, there was a regular flow of young men with varying hairstyles and attire pushing past me to squeeze their way in to hear the words of Rabbi Daniel Kalish. It was surprising to me, since many of these young men didn’t seem to be the type to be so persistent to hear words of Torah. And there we were—young and old, men and women, from all walks of life, listening attentively to one of the most perceptive educators of our generation. How was he able to do that? How could one message be given to such an eclectic group of people—people who behaved and looked so different from each other? The answer is...
Baltimore, MD - Aug. 22, 2025 -  Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott weighed in on Maryland Gov. Wes Moore's invitation for President Donald Trump to visit the city on Friday, saying that officials need to see "commitments" from the President, whether or not he accepts the invite. After calling out President Trump by name Thursday at a press conference before the demolition of Pimlico Race Course, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore invited the president to visit Baltimore to discuss "strategies for effective public safety policy." At the press conference, Moore said, "I do want to be very clear: If you are not willing to be part of the solution, keep our name out of your mouth. Specifically, Donald Trump. If you are not willing to walk our communities, keep our name out of your mouth. If y...

In a wide-ranging conversation at the Jerusalem Center for Foreign Affairs, where he is a visiting fellow, Yousuf spoke with Arutz Sheva - Israel National News about the war in Gaza, the fate of hostages, Hamas’ strategies, and his personal journey away from extremism. The FBI is searching the Maryland home of former Trump administration national security adviser John Bolton as part of an investigation into the handling of classified documents, a person familiar with the matter said Friday. The person was not authorized to discuss the investigation by name and spoke on the condition of anonymity to The Associated Press. Messages left with a spokesperson for Bolton and the White House were not immediately returned. A lawyer who has represented Bolton had no immediate comment Friday. FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on X, "NO ONE is above the law... @FBI agents on mission." Bolton served as Trump’s third national security adviser for 17 months and clashed with him over Iran, Afghanistan and North Korea. The first Trump administration had unsucc...

US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee told Al Arabiya English in an interview on Thursday that a Palestinian state is not a priority for the Trump administration. “I certainly haven’t heard the president say that this is one of the most important things we’ve got to look for,” Huckabee said. He also criticized the Palestinian Authority and European governments for actions that “completely disrupt” peace efforts. He noted that Gaza was once a “100 percent” Palestinian state, and that its disastrous outcome has eroded confidence in a two-state framework. “People see how that turned out,” he said. In a strong message to European leaders, Huckabee urged them to "reassess their actions" and place greater pressure on Hamas ...
The Trump administration can slash hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of research funding in its push to cut federal diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, the Supreme Court decided Thursday. The high court majority lifted a judge’s order blocking $783 million worth of cuts made by the National Institutes of Health to align with Republican President Donald Trump’s priorities. The high court did keep Trump administration guidance on future funding blocked, however. The court split 5-4 on the decision. Chief Justice John Roberts was among those who would have kept the cuts blocked, along with the court’s three liberals. The order marks the latest Supreme Court win for Trump and allows the administration to forge ahead with canceling hundreds of gran...
