Some 4,000 Marylanders lost power, according to BGE’s outage map, during the peak of Monday’s blackouts after the Baltimore-area utility issued a warning about an “unplanned disconnection” at a key regional power plant — a disruption severe enough to trigger an emergency energy conservation request to all customers.

The European Union (EU) has condemned the deaths of five Al Jazeera journalists in an Israeli airstrike near al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, including correspondent Anas al-Sharif, AFP reports.
The statement was issued Monday by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas following a virtual meeting of EU foreign ministers focused on the ongoing war.
"The EU condemns the killing of five Al Jazeera journalists in an (Israeli military) airstrike outside al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, including the Al Jazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif," Kallas said.

US President Donald Trump told Israeli media that he does not expect the Hamas terrorist organization to agree to a deal to release the hostages under the current circumstances.
Speaking with Channel 12 News correspondent Barak Ravid, Trump stated: "They (Hamas) are not going to release the hostages in the current situation. I think it will be very difficult to achieve that."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided not to pursue any partial deal with the Hamas terrorist organization, Channel 12 News reported this evening (Monday).

In an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan on Monday, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee offered a staunch defense of Israel’s actions in Gaza and sharply criticized the Hamas terrorist organization, particularly over its opposition to the humanitarian food initiative, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).

Three people were killed in a shooting at a Target in north Austin, Texas, Monday afternoon, police said.
Police were called to the Target located at 8601 Research Boulevard at 2:15 p.m., said Chief Lisa Davis. They arrived on scene within minutes and found three people shot in the Target parking lot.
The suspect hijacked a car and took off, Davis said. He crashed that car, she said, then hijacked another vehicle.
He was finally detained in south Austin after being tased. The suspect was described by Davis as a 32-year-old man with a history of mental health issues, but his name was not released.
Police said two people were pronounced dead at the scene, and another was transported to a local hospital where they died. A fourth person was treated for unrelated injuries, authorities said....

Jerusalem, Israel - Aug. 11, 2025 - Early on Monday morning, a team from the Israel Antiquities Authority's conservation management, on their way to routine work in the Western Wall tunnels, identified graffiti that had been sprayed in red on the stones of the Wall, near the Ezrat Yisrael section.
The team immediately began removing the inscription, using methods and materials specifically designed for removing graffiti from archaeological sites - water-based materials that do not harm the face of the ancient stone. The conservators avoided using chemical substances in order to preserve the appearance of the ancient site.
The inscription was completely removed, and the stones were returned to their original condition, while maintaining conservation values.

On “The C4 and Bryan Nehman Show” on Monday, the sheriff said court security needs to be prioritized.
“When we look at the judicial branch of government and what needs to happen in the courthouse, we have to feel safe, and we can’t have these incidents happen, and we need to fund it at the level it needs to be funded. An explosion at a U.S. Steel plant near Pittsburgh killed at least one person as rescuers raced to help dozens of people injured or trapped under the rubble on Monday.
The blast happened just before 11 a.m. at the Clairton Coke Works. There has been one death and at least two people are believed to be missing, Allegheny County Emergency Services said.
"Two people are currently believed to be unaccounted for with possible entrapment," Kasey Reigner, Allegheny County Emergency Services spokesperson, said in a statement.

Australia plans to recognize Palestinian statehood at the United Nations General Assembly next month, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed Monday.
