COUNTING EVERY DAY Thoughts on the New Month of Iyar  The word “Iyar” is an acronym for “Ani Hashem Rofecha,” I am God, your Healer. Iyar is considered a month of healing for both body and soul. Am Yisrael left slavery in Egypt during the month of Nissan, and in Iyar went through a process of recovery and strengthening. May we merit to feel this healing even today. Iyar is illuminated by a few special days: On the 14th, we mark Pesach Sheni, which offered a second chance for those who missed the first Pesach. This day teaches us that it’s never too late to rectify things. On the 18th, we celebrate Lag BaOmer, the anniversary of the passing of towering Talmudic luminary Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, author of the Zohar Hakadosh. In our generation: on the ...
Jerusalem, Israel - April 30, 2025 - Tuesday night, multiple ceremonies began with the nationwide siren marking the start of Israel’s solemn Yom HaZikaron, Memorial Day.  Families of fallen soldiers and victims of terror do not need a special day to remember, they remember every day.  Yom HaZikaron brings together bereaved families, lone soldiers, supporters, and community members to remember those who gave their lives for Am Yisrael.  This year, 25,240 is the official number of fallen. Since October 7, 2023, 850 new names have been added to this sadly growing number of soldiers killed. Ammunition Hill was the site of one of the most important battles for Yerushalayim in 1967 during the Six-Day War. Located on what had been the Jordanian bor...

He said: If the reverse had happened, the pain would have been the same; they are all my children  Parents of Oriel Goshen, Hy”d. (Yehuda Honickman)While my older son Avi guarded the border, his younger brother Arky was called into Gaza recently, for a mission which he described as the most important assignment his unit has received in its entire history. “Every single one of us was ready to put our lives on the line for this mission,” he told us upon his return. My son’s job is not an enviable one, and it’s not for most people. It’s a largely unknown unit called “Yasar,” an acronym for Yechidat Srika, loosely translated as the scanning unit. He is involved in recovering bodies and body parts, sometimes even on an active batt...
Baltimore, MD - April 30, 2025 - The Baltimore metro area is the 36th-worst location in the country for smog pollution, according to the American Lung Association’s 2025 “State of the Air” report finding that after decades of progress, the air we breathe is getting dirtier in many parts of the country. The report noted that after decades of progress in reducing the two major air pollutants, 156.1 million people — 46 percent of all Americans — are living in places that get failing grades for unhealthy levels of ground-level ozone pollution, or smog, and fine particle pollution, or soot. They are two of the most widespread and dangerous of pollutants. In Maryland, three counties received ‘F’ grades for high ozone days, according to the report...
Baltimore, MD - April 30, 2025 - General Motors is recalling nearly 600,000 vehicles across its Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC brands in the U.S. due to potential manufacturing defects that can cause engine failure. According to recall documents published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these vehicles share a gas engine that may have connecting rod or crankshaft component problems, due to supplier manufacturing or quality issues. This can lead to engine damage, and potentially failure, while driving — increasing crash risks. Prior to failure, NHTSA document...
