Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed Hamas for blocking ceasefire attempts in Gaza, specifically Hamas leaders living abroad, in a post on X/Twitter. "The Hamas terrorists chiefs living in Qatar don't care about the people in Gaza," Netanyahu wrote.  "They blocked all ceasefire attempts in order to endlessly drag out the war. Getting rid of them would rid the main obstacle to releasing all our hostages and ending the war." Reports by numerous Israeli media outlets state that the prime minister's social media post largely implies that the Israeli strike in Doha to take out top-ranking Hamas officials had failed. Prior reports that Hamas officials likely survived This comes two days after an Israeli official told The Jerusalem Post of the ...

The summit will focus on the recent Israeli strike in the city, which targeted a gathering of senior Hamas officials. In his Friday sermon in Tehran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami warned the governments of Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia that Israel may carry out additional attacks if it gains support or strengthens its power in the region. He stressed that the proper way to confront Israel is “through force, not through diplomacy.” Khatami claimed that Israel is pursuing a policy aimed at establishing a “Greater Israel” stretching from the Nile River to the Euphrates, accusing it of seeking to take over...

City officials warn that the closures are expected to last up to nine days, with delays anticipated for both drivers and transit riders. The impact is expected to be especially heavy during Sunday’s Ravens game, when traffic near Light Street and Howard Street is proje...

In Sefer Dvarim, we are treated to one of several places where Hashem uses a particular term of endearment for B’nei Yisroel, referring to us as the “Am Segulah”, a treasured nation (Vaeschanan, 7:6, Re’ei,14:2 and Ki Savo 26:18).  There are a myriad of other places where B’nei Yisroel are referred to as the “Am Hanivchar” – the “chosen people” (Vaeschanan, 4:37), Hashem’s “children” (Re’eh, 14:1-2) and even Hashem’s “first born” (Shemos, 4:22),.  What is the meaning of this special status?  Contemporary scientists would scream that there are no superior genome by race, class or ethnicity – and they may be right.  But consider, Since the dawn of the 20th century,...

Baltimore, MD - Sept. 12, 2025 - A troubling audit of State Highway Administration finances could draw the scrutiny of a legislative oversight panel in Annapolis later this year, lawmakers said Thursday. State Highway Administration officials “knowingly charged” nearly $360 million in unauthorized expenses to federal fund projects in an attempt to hide a deficit in the state’s Transportation Trust Fund, according to a report released Thursday by the Office of Legislative Audits. The audit looked at the period between Nov. 1, 2020, and Oct. 31, 2024, based on a complaint to the office’s fraud, waste and abuse hotline reporting a recent “rapid increase in the federal funds receivable balance.” It found that expenditures for more than 500 projects with $...

The Baal HaTanya – Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, the “Alter Rebbe” – was the regular Torah reader in the city of Liozna. One year, on Shabbos of Parshas Ki Savo, he was out of town and someone else read the Torah in his place. The Alter Rebbe’s son – DovBer, who would later become the “Mitteler Rebbe” – was at shul that week (he was almost bar mitzvah aged) and he began feeling anguish and pain due to the curses that were read in the Tochacha (section of admonition). His heartache was so strong that even a few weeks later, his father doubted that DovBer would be able to fast on Yom Kippur. When they asked the Mitteler Rebbe, “Don’t you hear this parsha every year?” he replied: “When father reads, one hears no curs...
As soon as the nation entered the Land, they were instructed to assemble by two mountains. The Levites would stand in the valley between them, first facing Mount Grizim where six of the tribes stood, pronouncing twelve blessings upon those who adhere to the law enumerated. They would then turn to the six other tribes situated on Mount Avel and utter the twelve curses that would befall those who failed to follow these precepts. The Torah goes on to list the twelve curses and their associated sins. Starting with accursing those who conceal molten images, the Torah goes on to list, degrading parents; moving property boundaries; misleading the blind; bestiality; laying with one's father's wife; laying with one's sister, daughter of his father or mother; laying with a mother-in...
