Baltimore, MD — Between tuition, groceries, busing, and everything that comes before Yom Tov, most Baltimore households aren't looking for one more thing to figure out. But there's one bill that can come down without anything changing at home.
Maryland's community solar program lets BGE customers draw their electricity from a local solar farm instead of putting panels on their own roof. BGE stays the utility — same wires, same service, same bill — and the savings appear as a credit on that bill. For Baltimore households, that's 20% off the electric bill.
Lower Your Bill handles the enrollment itself rather than passing names to a third party, and says both sides of the program are frum-run: the company managing the enrollment and the so...
We love segulos of all kinds, and the more exotic, the better. As a nation, we travel hundreds of thousands of miles to daven at kivrei tzaddikim. These are positive acts that create zechuyos, but we have the ability to create merits for ourselves right where we are, dozens of times a day.
It’s Elul and we’re all looking for ways of to get closer to Hashem. Sometimes the best course of action is not to look for something new, but to improve what we’re already doing.
A year ago, I wrote some thoughts in this space on improving how we say brachos, reciting them out loud, more slowly, without mumbling or slurring them. Baruch Hashem, that article was very well-received, and I heard from many people that they improved their recital and understanding of brachos. It was perha...
As Rosh Hashanah approaches, there is tension in the air. The days of judgment are coming, and as we reflect on ourselves, we notice our faults. This can give rise to feelings of guilt or inadequacy. For some, this time of year can feel overwhelming, and they may get stuck in negative feelings.
Someone who has a negative experience with the Yomim Noraim is not properly embracing these precious days. I want to offer a new perspective on Rosh Hashanah that may help many people approach this holy day with a healthier mindset. If you already feel inspired and uplifted by Rosh Hashanah, that’s wonderful, and I am not suggesting you change anything. My thoughts are meant to guide those who don't yet have a healthy relationship with this very special day.
While Rosh Hashanah is kno...

BJH: Tell us a little about yourself and how you ended up leading Agudah Maryland.
Rabbi Sadwin: I grew up in Silver Spring, and came to Baltimore in 1990 to attend Ner Yisroel, and where I have remained ever since (except for two years in Eretz Yisroel). In 1999 I married my wife, Pessi, whose family has been in Baltimore for generations.
My childhood was filled with observing how my parents (ybcl”c) were uniquely involved in serving the tzibur - shul, schools, and individuals alike, instilling in me the importance of taking responsibility when something needed to get done.
In 2007, Rabbi Baruch Neuberger put in my na...
