“Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far.” — Theodore Roosevelt
Many feel that soft speech and a calm demeanor are beautiful traits, as long as they are backed up by a willingness to be forceful when necessary. While this may be true in the world of international diplomacy, Rabbi Moshe Hauer, ztv’l, modeled for us a different approach. Rabbi Hauer taught us to “speak softly and live a life of selfless dedication to your people.” Rabbi Hauer modeled that a message espoused through soft and kind words need not be reinforced through tough action or abrasive rhetoric. The big stick, which is often used both in words and actions, is not the only way to get your message across. Rather, through meaningful action that mirrors the values you espouse ...

Washington, D.C. - Nov. 3, 2025 - A federal judge on Saturday issued a written order saying there is “no question” that U.S. Department of Agriculture contingency funds must be used to provide food assistance for 42 million Americans during the government shutdown.
Rhode Island U.S. District Court Chief Judge John J. McConnell Jr. had said during a Friday hearing he was granting a temporary restraining order sought by cities and nonprofit groups. McConnell ordered that the government distribute payments of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits.
Because Congress is locked in a stalemate over a stopgap spending bill and did not appropriate money for the fiscal year that began Oct. 1, Trump administration officials had said the ...
Baltimore, MD - Nov. 2, 2025 - I knocked on the door of his office. Like so many times before, I waited impatiently for his invitation to enter, but today was different. I didn’t have a question about shiur, nor was I seeking his unparalleled clarity of thought to unravel a personal crisis. We had just been blessed with our first child, and I was eager to share the news with my Rebbe.
“Come in,” came the familiar voice. I turned the doorknob and stepped into the office of Mori V’rabi Harav Ezra Neuberger, zt”l. Rav Ezra’s office was an oasis of calm and tranquility. The walls were lined with a few bookcases of seforim. A couple of chairs sat in the dim light facing the clean desk that held neither a computer nor a phone. I saw him sitting behind th...

Seagate, NJ - Nov. 1, 2025 - "This precious Yid so loved by his Baltimore community is the person who spearheaded the Sea Gate Sandy recovery effort. He got his whole Oilom of Mispallelim to come with Buses to Sea Gate and בכבודו ובעצמו ran the massive cleanup effort of many of our homes which were literally wiped out during that very difficult time. I remember attempting to help him in my basement and he gently took me by the arm and said, "No this is not for you. It's way too painful for you to be involved here. Please go somewhere else and let me and my people do this work..." when I saw him again later all muddied up someone from the Baltimore community told me, "Do you know that this Yid leads a Shul as a beloved Rabbi where hundreds of Yidden Daven ...

Baltimore, MD - Nov. 1, 2025 - As Marylanders start to navigate the open enrollment period for health insurance, state officials are pointing out that higher costs aren’t the only changes that could trip people up.
“We encourage everybody to come back in and look at their plan, make sure the plan makes sense for your needs, for your family’s need,” Michele Eberle, executive director of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange, said in a webinar Friday on the changes on open enrollment this year.
The Marketplace Integrity Rule out of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the federal budget reconciliation bill, often referred to as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” is bringing massive changes to health care.
But Eberle said that the ...
US President Donald Trump on Saturday criticized Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), a member of “The Squad” of anti-Israel Democrats, in a post on Truth Social.
“She should go back!” Trump wrote, sharing a video of Omar addressing a crowd in Minnesota and saying “Somalia is our home” and referring to the President of Somalia as “our President”.
The President has repeatedly suggested Omar should be removed from the country. In September, he told reporters in the Oval Office, “You know I met the head of Somalia, did you know that? And I suggested that maybe he’d like to take her back. He said ‘I don’t want her.’”
During his first term, Trump frequently criticized Omar, including during the final stretch of the 2020 c...
US Ambassador to Turkey Thomas Barrack has warned that the Hezbollah terror group still has a large supply of rockets and missiles, as well as massive manpower.
Speaking at a conference in Bahrain, Barrack said that the terror group has 40,000 terrorists, as well as 15,000-20,000 rockets and missiles.
Barrack also said that Lebanon is "a failed state and "has no central bank, its banking system has collapsed. There is no electricity; people depend on private generators. Even water and education are provided by private suppliers. The state is Hezbollah, which in the south provides water and education."
He also noted that Gulf states are willing to invest up to $10 billion in southern Lebanon, if Hezbollah disarms and the country distances itself from Iranian influence.
Barrack also said...
