Jerusalem, Israel - Aug. 10, 2017 - Secretary General of the Organization of American States, OAS, Luis Almagro, is in Israel on an official visit. Almagro, a lawyer from Uruguay, has  headed OAS since 2015.

On Wednesday,Almagro met with President Reuven Rivlin, and on Thursday, met with Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu, After meeting with Israeli leaders, Almagro, reported, "Great dialogue on expansion of cooperation between Israel and OAS in key areas.

On Wednesday evening, leaders of World Jewish Congress and South American diplomats in Israel were among those hear the OAS Secretary General speak the the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, Israel, hosted by the World Jewish Congress Israel Council on Foreign Relations.

Almagro began his remarks by stating, this was not his first trip to Israel, but his first as head of OAS. He emphasized religious freedom and Israeli democracy, and shared values. Innovation, in among other areas, as in water management, so important to the Americas was another key topic.. Young people today will be in jobs, 5% of which to do not exist today.
