Beit Shemesh, Israel - Aug. 9, 2017 - This morning, residents of Beit Shemesh celebrated the end of decades of traffic nightmares, with the grand opening ceremony of the new Route 38. The ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Minister of Transportation Yisrael Katz, the Mayor of Beit Shemesh Moshe Abutbol, and other national and local leaders, marked the end of a transportation nightmare for Beit Shemesh residents, who incurred as long as a 30 minute travel time on the 7 kilometer road. Residents and visitors should now be able to make the trip between Beit Shemesh and Route 1 in about seven minutes.

The opening of the roadway was also hailed by the local volunteer EMT organization, Hatzala Beit Shemesh. With no hospital near the rapidly expanding city, Hatzala ambulances would routinely get stuck fighting their way through traffic on the roadway, delaying care for seriously injured, ill or pregnant women who are in labor. Representatives of the organization thanked the Prime Minister and Minister of Transportation for the new roadway, explaining that it will save lives. It was recounted how just this morning, a baby was delivered in the ambulance because of the traffic on the roadway.
