Second pilot in Apache helicopter crash in which General David Zohar was killed begins to respond, move arms and legs.

The condition of the pilot seriously injured in the Apache helicopter crash in southern Israel on Monday evening has significantly improved, Beer Sheva’s Soroka hospital said this morning.

According to the hospital, for the first time since the accident the pilot began to respond and move his arms and legs.

Yesterday, Maj. Gen. Dudi Zohar, the pilot of the helicopter who was killed in the disaster, was laid to rest. Minister of Regional Cooperation Tzahi Hanegbi (Likud) participated in a funeral held at the Haifa military cemetery and said that "Dudi flew in all the wars and operations in which the Apache helicopter squadron took part over the past 20 years."

"Despite the fact that he had a family and was a devoted father of four children, despite the burden he had on him as a senior and outstanding manager at the Elbit company, Dudi did not give up the privilege to return to reserve duty again and again, to train and guide young pilots and to contribute his part to the defense of the state. He ranked among the best in the fullest sense, '' the minister added.

A preliminary investigation by the Air Force regarding the circumstances of the helicopter crash determined that the steering of the helicopter’s rotor system caused the crash. Nine minutes before landing, the pilots reported the problem and were called back to the base, and then the disaster in which Zohar was killed and the other officer officer seriously injured occurred.
