Police in July received a number of complaints from students who arrived in Israel on a Birthright trip and who were victims of theft while hosted in the guesthouse of Kibbutz Almog. An undercover investigation was launched and it led to a number of arrests.

The investigation revealed that the suspects collected information about the students’ stay at the guest house and after checking that the students were not in the rooms would break into their room using a customized key and steal valuable items, cell phones, jewelry, credit cards and cash. During the past two weeks, a woman and three men were arrested, all in their twenties, residents of central Israel.

When police conducted a search of the residences of those arrested, their found stolen merchandise as well as cash believed to be counterfeit. They are also suspected of using some of the stolen credit cards to make purchases.

They have been arraigned and their remand extended.
