New York - A New York State assemblyman has formulated a plan to show commitment to Israel as a way of striking back against Boycott Divestment Sanctions, calling on grocery stores and supermarkets nationwide to create dedicated Kosher for Passover sections featuring items produced in Judea and Samaria.

Assemblyman Dov Hikind of Brooklyn said this morning that he has asked stores to take part in a grassroots campaign to show support for Israel in light of anti-Jewish sentiments that continue to spread throughout Europe and beyond.

“European countries have consistently undercut Israel through a series of sanctions and boycotts,” said Hikind. “This campaign, to implement sections for Israel-based products in stores, is about giving Klal Yisrael the opportunity to stand up against this rejection. It’s about sending a message that we won’t idly stand by and let the European Union try to undermine the people of Israel.”

Creating specific areas selling Israeli products exclusively will make it easier for shoppers to choose those items and Hikind called upon consumers to demonstrate their commitment to Israel with their purchasing power even if it means a slightly higher grocery bill.

“Together we can make a difference,” said Hikind. “Every one of us can help in a unique way by sending a clear message of support to our brothers and sisters in Israel.  With supermarkets joining the campaign, they will be joining in an effort to thwart the crippling effects of BDS.”

According to Hikind, dozens of major supermarkets throughout the United States have already begun committing to this pro-Israel initiative and he expects to release a list of participating stores within the coming weeks.
