Just days ahead of Rosh Hashanah, with many Israelis buying fish ahead of Rosh Hashanah, a major kashrus blunder was detected on Sunday, 22 Elul. Tnuva distributed calamari fish - which are treif - in boxes marked cod fish. The Chief Rabbinate Kashrus Enforcement Unit received a complaint from a mashgiach who noticed the shipment of forbidden seafood.

The fish were already fried, rending the utensils treif but B”H the mashgiach noticed what was being served before it was brought to guests.

In response, the Chief Rabbinate of Israel calls on anyone who purchased Tnuva frozen whole cod fish in loose packaging or from another company, to immediately open the package to inspect its contents to make sure it is cod fish and not something else.

Tnuva officials’ immediately put the word out when the error was discovered.
