Baltimore, MD - Aug. 7, 2017 - Tonight, Wednesday, August 9th, 2017,  Cheswolde  neighbors are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide that previously celebrated  the “34th Annual National Night Out” (NNO) crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Cheswolde Neighborhood Association, will involve over 16,540 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 38.1 million people are expected to participate in ‘America’s Night Out  Against Crime’.  NNO 2017 local sponsors include, Councilman Isaac “Yitzy” Schleifer, Healthy Neighborhoods, Tov Pizza, Baltimore Shomrim Safety Patrol, Hatzalah of Baltimore, Pickwick East Apartments and Baltimore Jewish Life.

National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police- community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

On August 9th, 2017 residents in the Cheswolde neighborhood, are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Many neighborhoods throughout Baltimore in the past several weeks  have hosted a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, visits from police, contests, youth activities and anticrime rallies.

The Cheswolde Neighborhood Association (CNA) will be having its 3rd Annual  community wide event. On August 9th, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm the CNA with help from corporate sponsors will be providing an absolutely free event. The CNA NNO event will be held on the 2800 Block of Hanson Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21209. The event will offer music, food, snacks, moon bounce, balloon man, the BPD  SWAT, Mounted and Motor Cycle Units being on display, visits from Federal, State and Local elected officials and other activities to engage the community in showing its strong support for Baltimore and law enforcement. The CNA encourages residents, local businesses, and community groups to get in touch with them if they are interested in being a sponsor or to volunteer at the event.

Cheswolde Neighborhood Association President, Nathan Willner, stated, “ the NNO event is the perfect time for members of our community to show appreciation for the men and women of law enforcement and to build and enhance the strong partnership we are fortunate to have with the local police and sheriff’s departments. I am sure as in the past two years our community will come out in large numbers to join in celebrating the community-police relationship.”
