Baltimore, MD - June 7, 2017 - Dalya Attar’s campaign for State Delegate (District 41) launched last night with close to 250 people joining the kick-off event, including Judge Michelle Lowenthal and Baltimore City Councilman Yitzy Schleifer.  Although Dalya has no political background, the crowd demonstrated the diversity of Dalya’s appeal, with business colleagues, community association leaders from around the district, Jewish leaders and Rabbis, and district residents from all backgrounds on hand to show their support.

After being introduced by business owner and community leader Jerry Wolasky, Dalya cited the need for new, bold leadership and her desire to give back to the community as core reasons for her decision to run.

Dalya explained that born and raised in Baltimore, she watched her immigrant parents struggle with a new language, new culture, and new lifestyle. Determined to raise their family with the great American opportunities, they worked hard and overcame many challenges. Today, Dalya wants to give back to the community and city that helped her parents and their family so much by ensuring that all families in the district have opportunities to succeed.

While most of Dalya’s remarks focused on key issues in her platform, including job creation, education, transportation and battling crime and heroin, she made direct reference to the need for delegates who are willing to step up and lead boldly. She noted that the district has a State Senator facing 9 counts of federal indictment, and questioned how he can be properly fighting for us in Annapolis if he’s distracted with fighting to defend his innocence. Dalya voiced her concern that our state delegates should be calling for his resignation so that someone else can be in that Senate seat, fighting for us and the great needs of the district.

Running on a theme of “Baltimore belongs to all of us,” she emphasized the need for outsiders, fresh voices fighting for our families in Annapolis. She noted that the problems in Baltimore City have worsened over the years under the leadership of career politicians, and it’s time for everyone to take ownership and play a role in improving the quality of life.

She encouraged everyone to get involved in the campaign. More information can be found at www.DalyaAttar.com.
