About the Position

Camp Koolanu is an 8 week summer day camp for boys based at the JCC of Greater Baltimore on Park Heights Avenue. This camp is designed for boys entering grades K-5 in yeshiva day schools and similar programs.
Duration: While Camp Koolanu is an 8 week program from June 22, 2015 � August 14, 2015, additional time before the summer will be spent in planning activities, meeting parents and overall logistics, as well as hiring of staff.

Position Responsibilities

Direct the daily operation of Camp Koolanu including hiring, training and supervising all camp staff to include but not limited to counselors, junior counselors, specialty instructors (sports, art, baking, science, etc.)

Act in the capacity as a mentor and role model for the staff, one to whom a staff member can bring their bunk/program area problems, successes, challenges and questions

Coordinate and lead staff meetings and information sessions both prior to and during the summer.

Ensure that all staff paperwork and background checks are complete and in compliance with JCC Human Resource standards

Provide ongoing and timely communication with parents of campers who are enrolled in the program.

Responsible for creating a weekly newsletter to be distributed every Friday to campers and parents.


Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this position will have

excellent written and verbal communication skills
strong leadership skills, ability to motivate, manage, and counsel
a strong background and years of experience in camping and/or related fields
a Yeshiva Background
a desire and ability to work with children and adults in Camp setting
the ability to creatively plan and schedule programs and activities, and to maximize the skills and talents of staff members
Must be a self-starter and able to work independently
